ANNA Crusis Women’s Choir: Hear Us Roar – 45th Anniversary Concert
June 6 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm$10 – $35
Celebrating 45 years singing out for social justice, ANNA’s celebratory June concert, Hear Us Roar, will honor the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, lifting up the rights of women and disenfranchised communities.
Featuring commissions by Philadelphia jazz legend Monnette Sudler; singer/composer and song collector Moira Smiley; and “Lifting As We Climb,” by revered choral composer Joan Szymko. ANNA is the longest-running feminist women’s choir in the United States, founded in 1975 by Dr. Catherine Roma.
For all those 45 years, diverse individuals have joined together in song – building community, changing lives, and singing out for justice. Guided by a feminist sensibility to the richness and multiplicity of human experience, and to the power of collective creativity, ANNA strives for musical excellence to uplift, challenge, and empower its members and its audience with music that inspires and transforms.
Currently, ANNA is working to discover what it means to be inclusive to transgender and gender non-conforming singers while maintaining its feminist history and identity.
