Influencer Lecture — Stitching Resistance

April 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$10 – $15

Every Tuesday in March and April, from 6-7pm, Winterthur presents a lecture about an important influencer. The April 21 lecture, Stitching Resistance, will be given by Mariah Gruner, a doctoral candidate in American Studies at Boston University.

What are the roots of today’s interest in political stitching? You’ll learn about the uses of needlework in both the abolitionist and suffrage movements and the ways in which activists exploited its associations with domesticity, femininity, and sentiment for their own ends.
